Couple of Vids and a brief summary

Well not a great week of riding as I rode less than 90 km’s. I did go on a club ride this morning but had to come back early for family reasons but to be honest I probably would have pulled off anyway. It was only fast riders today and being dropped on all the climbs gets a bit demoralising after a while. A tough Sportive coming up in a few weeks so I plan to start doing over 200 km’s every week from now on. Let’s see how it goes.

Here’s a couple of recent Videos, including last weeks Marcha Villa de Gijon:

Summary and up coming rides

Due to work demands and family visits I haven’t been able to go out much on the bike over the last two weeks. To compensate, what rides I have done have been quite long and hilly so hopefully I am moving toward some level of fitness. To be honest I’m not riding any faster than I did at this time last year but the big difference is that now I can do a 90km ride and still feel as if I have quite a bit of energy left. This is just as well as I have some pretty long and tough rides planned for the next couple of months.

The first main challenge is next weekend when I hope to take part in my clubs Maratoniana ride which is 200km long. You can see the route here:  http://www.strava.com/routes/270844

In May I have a sportive in Gijon and although I have heard it is quite tough I have no idea of the route. In June I have the sportive Los Lagos de Covadonga , which is definitely tough and I hope to ride the course with my friend Ian before the actual sportive.

After that I can rest a bit before heading off (with Ian) in August to the Pyrenees to climb the Tourmalet and several other famous climbs. If I survive all that I then have my clubs sportive Los Puertos Esmeralda which will probably seem quite easy if I get through all the other stuff.

Due to the fact I have lots of tough rides planned I have abandoned the idea of climbing the L’Angliru before the summer. I will do a few training rides half way and perhaps, if I am feeling strong, I will attempt to get to the top but at the moment I prefer not to set any time scale on it. I mean it’s not like it’s going anywhere.

Here are several of the routes I have ridden over the last couple of weeks all of which I would highly recommend:

Weather permitting I hope to get a few long rides in this week. The weather is a bit barmy at the moment, one minute I am dipping into the summer wardrobe in search of shorts and the following day I will be back in the winter wardrobe looking for thermals. Don’t think it’s time to shave the legs yet though.

Weekly ride summary week 49/12

Well as expected I am failing to keep my blog up to date so this is a few days late. It was another rain affected week last week but managed 4 rides although some were rather on the wet side. Had some pretty good rides and set quite a few PB’s and also did my longest ever ride (still only 43km) and highest elevation gain. Core strength seems to be improving but need to focus more on endurance but overall everything going in the right direction and enjoying the riding.
